James E. Smith

Jim is the backbone of the musical side of our group.
Jim is currently the chair of the Department Of Fine & Performing Arts at Central State University (Ohio)
and is on the faculty of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
He has performed three national broadcasts on National Public Radio. He has also performed
at The Nancy Jazz Pulsations Festival in Nancy, France.
Jim has performed with Joe Henderson, Woody Shaw, Billy Hart, Frank Foster, Norris Turney, Slide Hampton,
Cal Collins,Emily Remier, John McNeil, Brian Lynch, Bill Cunliffe, Tim Hagans,Dave Liebman, Lynn Seaton and many others.
Jim has had performances with national touring companies of the Broadway shows "Zorba" (starring Anthony
Quinn) and "42nd Street."
Jim received his B.A. from University of New Mexico and his M.M. from Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. He
has written 8 books and has recorded with the Cincinnati Seven on the Klavier label (Sepulvada, Ca).
Whatever the venue, Jim is the man who assembles the needed instruments. He has a multi-talented group to
choose from and can assemble a trio, quartet, or more from the very wide and talented musicians in our area and from the Cincinnati
and Columbus area.
Jim is the father of 4 children.
